From the judges: The Virtual Virtuoso was visually appealing, conveyed a compelling story and was fun. It evoked a nostalgic response from those of us who were fans of pre-digital comics!

Title of Entry: The Virtual Virtuoso
About this Entry: Lethbridge College graphic designer Shawn Salberg brought the exciting (but difficult-to-illustrate) marvels of a new Augmented and Virtual Reality program to life in this story, The Virtual Virtuoso, which appeared in the Spring 2020 issue of Wider Horizons, Lethbridge College's community and alumni magazine.
Focusing on Mike McCready, the newly named President's Applied Research Chair in Virtual Reality, Salberg created a host of memorable images to turn what could have been a standard news story ("College names new applied research chair for new program") into a one-of-a-kind piece of art that people are still talking about.
Salberg created this project outside of the confines of his regular job at the college, drawing on a passion for graphic storytelling and comic books to create this remarkable piece. We are proud to submit it for a Best of CASE VIII award.
