About this Entry: GAIA, a digital magazine named after the Greek goddess of the earth (and in anticipation of many stories focused on the earth, life and environmental sciences) was launched in July 2019 using the publication platform Medium, with a subtitle “The Online Journal of Research, Discovery, and Scholarship at Western Washington University.” Medium was chosen not only for its image-handling and page-design options but because Medium’s editors could potentially include Western’s stories in their own daily digest sent to more than a million Medium users and members worldwide – reaching new audiences with Western’s stories than could ever be reached otherwise.
